Welcome to the demo version of Star Trek: 25th Anniversary for the Macintosh. This demonstration of the game allows you to play through one space combat, and one room of one episode of the ground missions. The actual game consists of eight Star Trek episodes.
This demo requires a 256 color monitor, 1500k free RAM, and runs under System 6.0.7 or later.
During the demo, press Command-P to pause the game and enable the Macintosh menu bar.
ON THE BRIDGE
The demo will first appear on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise in the middle of a mock battle simulation with another Constitution-class vessel.
You control Captain Kirk at the helm. When a text box appears, click on the upper right icon to make it go away.
Move the mouse around to steer the Enterprise, and click the mouse button to fire phasers. The space bar will fire photon torpedoes.
Press the TAB key to toggle between movement/fire mode and crew selection mode.
The available bridge commands are-
"S" key • SHIELDS (raises/lowers shields so Enterprise can survive a hit)
"W" key • WEAPONS (lets you fire photon torps and phasers)
Mouse Button • PHASERS (fires fast phaser weapons)
Space Bar • PHOTON TORPEDOES (fires slower photon torpedoes)
"D" key • DAMAGE CONTROL (concentrates repairs on a particular system)
"E" key • EMERGENCY POWER (diverts emergency power to all ship systems)
"A" key • TARGET ANALYSIS (displays analysis of enemy ship’s systems)
Number keys along the top of the keyboard (not from the numeric keypad) control the Enterprise speed. The "1" key is a dead stop with speed increasing as you choose higher numbers. "0" is top speed (think of it as ten). the "`" (backquote) key (left of the "1" key) will put the ship into a slow reverse speed.
When you finish the combat (either by defeating the enemy ship or by losing the simulation yourself), the following commands will also work:
"N" key • NAVIGATION (navigates Enterprise to assigned mission)
"O" key • ORBIT PLANET (enters orbit around a planet)
"K" key • KIRK'S OPTIONS (view mission score, beam down to planet, turn on/off sound and music)
"T" key • TALK TO SPOCK (gives valuable advice and information)
"C" key • LIBRARY COMPUTER (search for information about your current mission. Type in keyword and press Return. Press ESC to exit)
"H" key • COMMUNICATION (Uhura makes contact with planet or ship)
AFTER YOU FINISH THE COMBAT
Press the "N" key to navigate to the first mission. Press "O" to orbit the planet and press "H" for Uhura to hail the colony. To beam down to the surface, press "K" for Kirk's options and select the Transporter Icon. Your party will beam down to the surface of Pollux V.
While on landing party missions, you can walk around and talk to various people as you attempt to solve the problem that was presented to you by the Federation Admiral at the start of the mission. Pressing the space bar or option-click will bring up the Command Interface. You can click on the eyes to look at an item; on the mouth to speak to someone; on the raised hand to use an item; and on the lowered hand to get an item. Alternatively, use "T" to talk, "L" to look, "U" to use, "W" to walk, or "G" to get.
For instance, to talk to Dr. McCoy after landing on the planet surface:
1. Press the space bar to bring up the Command Interface
2. Click on the mouth
3. Click on Dr. McCoy

1. Press "T"
2. Click on Dr. McCoy
When you speak to the Prelate, some choices will appear. You can page through the choices by clicking on the left and right arrows, and clicking on the “close box” will select that choice.
